San Gimignano and Florence

Your day starts with the city of Florence where you will be visiting some of the important sites in the city such as the Church of Santa Croce, the main Duomo and Baptistery, the Ponte Vecchio, pass by the Pitti Palace and the Piazza of Michelangelo where you will have the most beautiful view of Florence. There will be also time for a quick stop at the Accademia Gallery to see the great David before driving away from Florence in to the countryside of Chianti, arriving to the town of SanGigmignano, one of the most imposing and best preserved medieval towns of Italy.

The thirteen towers that dominate San Gimignano’s majestic skyline were built by noble families in the 12th and 13th century, when the town’s position, on the main pilgrim route from northern Europe to Rome, brought it great prosperity. The plague of 1348, and the diversion of the pilgrim’s route led to its decline, which, ironically, helped to preserve the town’s intact medieval aspect until today.

Your English speaking driver will pick you up from the port of Livorno in the morning and will take you back to the dock in the afternoon.

Please dress respectfully for visiting religious monuments; local custom requires covering knees and shoulders. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
